Piedmont College was a mentally preparing game. The day before the game at the end of practice coach had told us that he did not know anything about them. Therefore we knew going into the game the next day we would have to prepare our minds so that we could take on any challenge.
On the afternoon of September 11, 2010 the Guilford College soccer team traveled to Axton, Va to compete against Piedmont College. The day was cloudy and had a bit of a breeze. We all knew at some point during the game it would rain. The warm up seemed to be a little slow but everyone appeared to be okay and I sensed that they were ready to come out and play.
The first half started off very well but we could not get the ball in the back of the net. The game appeared to be dominated by us for most of the half but we still couldn’t finish. As the half went on the weather started to finally agree with our expectations and it began to rain. Finally at the thirty minute mark Jordan Alexander put one away to make the score 1-0. After the goal the team started to get excited and so did Piedmont College. Only a few minutes later Bradley Thomas of Piedmont answered back with a goal. This created a lot of haste within our team; everyone knew that the goal should not have happened. Both teams were now ready to do anything to score so it started to get a little rougher and more talkative.
Right after halftime everyone’s nerves were up and Stephen Sherfy of Piedmont got a red card. This was a big momentum changer; we knew that they were a player down and now we had to score. That is exactly what we did. At sixty-three minutes Jordan Alexander gave the ball to Richard Page for him to finish and put the score to 2-1. At this point in the game we knew that we had to keep playing but we could now relax a little. To show how much the game was out of hand; at the sixty-fifth minute there was a penalty kick. Freddy Gomez put it away to make the game 3-1. The game was ended when Tom Crowley and Eto’o Kemda-Kemtsop each scored a goal putting the final score of the game to be 5-1.
This game started to get us prepared for how we should come out for every game. We should go into every game knowing that we WILL NOT back down. The team looked very good this weekend and I am very excited for the ODAC.
