"It doesn't matter how long we may have been stuck in a sense of our limitations. If we go into a darkened room and turn on the light, it doesn't matter if the room has been dark for a day, a week, or ten thousand years -- we turn on the light and it is illuminated." -Sharon Salzberg
Seriously? Did I just take a midterm last night? I am still shocked that I am going into my fifth week of summer classes. Where did the time go? I'm happy to say I made a good grade on my Contemporary Chinese Society in Film midterm as well as I received an A on my first paper for my Masterpieces of the Cinema class as well as took my midterm for the class last night. I still believe it should be illegal to take any kind of test after six at night. But all is well.
Contemporary Chinese Society in Film has been an amazing class. I've learned SO much about Chinese Society from this class as well as I LOVE my professor Zhihong Chen! I took a class with her last semester and am taking another one of her classes in the Fall, History of Chinese Women. I'm sad that there is only one more week left of her class.
However I am looking forward to my next five week class which is Women in Modern Japan with another professor Hiroko Hirokawa-Sensei. Like Zhihong this will be my third class with Hirokawa-Sensei. I took Japanese 101 with her as well as Contemporary Japanese Society. I absolutely loved it! Though the Japanese I learned is now fading from me, I hope I can remember how to spell my name in Katakana! And with that class I will be wrapping up my minor however I love the Asian classes at Guilford so much I will be taking more surpassing the amount of classes I need for my minor. I LOVE THE EAST ASIAN STUDIES DEPARTMENT AT GUILFORD!!! I really do!
On another note working for Campus life thus far has been an interesting little adventure. Can't reveal too much about what's going to happen with the Fall 2011 Freshmen Orientation but the theme is going to be a fun one, I can promise you that! Since I work for Admissions during the year, my mind still thinks I'm cheating on them by working for Campus Life this summer. But I really have enjoyed working under Jen Agor. She's an amazing lady. Though I seem to always find the most amazing work-study and summer bosses. Perhaps I really am just that lucky.
Volunteer hours for Admissions is still going smoothly. I really do enjoy volunteering for Admissions during the summers so I don't forget anything when I return in the Fall. However it really will be an interesting thing to return in the Fall to Admissions. I know everyone will see my face on Saturdays behind the front desk again this upcoming year!
Speaking of this up coming year, I still cannot believe I am a junior and I’m turning 21 in a week. It's been an amazing ride thus far at Guilford College. I really feel like I've grown so much in the last two years while at Guilford and the idea that Guilford is a part of my growth from being a teenager into a legal young adult makes my experience at Guilford that much more memorable. Maybe that sounded cheesy, but believe me when I say I practically live at Guilford year round since I attend here over the summers. But what they say about Guilford is true it really is your second home and you really do find new pieces of yourself every day.
On that note my lovely readers, I'll be back in a couple of days, so take care of yourselves, be safe, be well, and be you! Have an amazing week! I'm going to now enjoy my quiet weekend.
