"Being a writer is like having homework for the rest of your life." –Lawrence Kasdan
In follow up news, I made a B on my Masterpieces of the Cinema midterm!! YAY! Just got to reach for that A on the final in July. Speaking of finals, I have my final at the end of the week for Contemporary Chinese Society in Film class.
One thing I've learned that will now forever stick with me; I think we all know that China is the King of Kings right now within the world's economy when it comes to exports, well I understand the democratic fear of communism, but here's the funny thing, yeah, China is a communist country, however they have a very capitalist economy. This information has left me confused because communism by definition of what it is does not support capitalism within it. Yeah, no one probably cared about that aside from me.
Though I will say this, China's move from Traditionalism to Modernism is probably one of the most interesting things I have ever watched and read about. If you are interested in any of this, three good movies to watch are;
Lust, Caution (2007) directed by Ang Lee
The Last Emperor (1987) directed by Bernardo Bertolucci
The Joy Luck Club (1994) directed by Wayne Wang
I really am going to miss my Chinese history class; at least I’ll see Professor Chen again in 8 weeks or so.
I still cannot believe I'm starting a new class on Monday. I can't believe I'm turning 21 this Saturday. I cannot believe I plan to start working on a teen/young adult novel that I actually will finish this time! This is what happens when you’re a writer; you throw away and start again. Your homework’s never done. Yay, English major with a focus in creative writing. My last project I worked on ended up being 192 typed single spaced pages, and yes I scrapped it! I still have an electronic copy floating around. But something about a beautiful quiet campus during the summer really inspires you to write, especially when you can hang down at the Guilford Lake! That is one of the best places on campus especially if you're lucky enough to catch a bonfire in the evening.
What else, oh what else, hmm, well Guilford is changing like it does every summer. We received wireless internet within all the dorms last year, this year we have new card readers. Let me tell you, as someone who has had to replace her Quaker Card multiple times because I swiped it too much, I'm SO excited that I don't have to swipe my card anymore to gain access into my dorm or another dorm. Hooray for less wear and tear! Okay maybe that wasn't that exciting either.
Alright my lovely readers, I'll be back in a couple of days, so take care of yourselves, be safe, be well, and be you! Have an amazing rest of the week, and if I do not post by Father's Day, then, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! Okay, I have some more homework to do after work and before class, then a final to start working on. But I'll let you all know how that goes. ^_^
