Another Crazy Week!

Woah, what a week! When you let stress get the best of you, you start thinking things are due way before the due date. Sadly this has happened to me three times this week, I thought I had a Sociology paper due yesterday, I thought I had a History assignment due today, and to top it off I thought something else was due today. I guess there is something to my insanity, because I believe it is better to be ahead than fall behind, and the last month of school is practically here, so I truly need to bring my A-game and not fall behind.

Also, since I love Guilford so much and I've been a local kid here in Greensboro for five years, I have signed up to take one class over the Summer, "Intro to Creative Writing". I love writing. I love it more than I probably love my dog. No, no, I love my dog don't get me wrong, but my writing will last longer than she will unfortunately. Too bad we cannot be like that Jellyfish that can practically live forever on its own. But really I'm excited. Anything that can help with my writing and my novels is more than welcomed by me. Also I feel like this is a great chance to learn new things on a college level compared to my Creative Writing classes from high school, but also I feel this will help me since I want to take an "Intro to Fiction" course next fall here.

Classes are going well. The craziness and workaholic aspect of it all is something to cherish when all is said and done. Who doesn't want to feel accomplished? I'm starting to really fall more for English despite the fact I want to be a History major. It just makes me realize that maybe my calling lies with English and some of that passion lies with History, but the two are so intertwined, I do not think it would matter which one I pick, since I'm still a little undecided about what I want to do after college, and that's okay. Guilford I feel is the right guide for my personal growth and helping mold the ideas and goals I have together. But this I will stick with... East Asian Studies as my minor. I just love Asia, especially, Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

I hope that next week takes things a little slower, or perhaps it wasn't just this week that seemed long maybe I had a little... a lot to do with it. But I have this crazy feeling things are going to get a little crazier before exam week at the end of the semester.

Round 2

Okay, so the first week back from Spring Break has almost come to a close, and I must say I feel like this has been one of the busiest weeks I've had all year. Though I'm not saying that it is a bad thing, I just feel a little worn down, and it's only Thursday. But even though this week has been full of getting back into the swing of things, I am just glad daylight savings made time seem to go a little faster, even though I think my sense of time is still just a little off.
 
I honestly, REALLY missed Guilford while on break.  Since I’ve been living in Greensboro for the last five years, people who come from everywhere but Greensboro here at Guilford like to call me the local kid. I suppose in a manner of speaking I am, so going home for break didn't seem as great of an adventure as I had planned. And by Tuesday of the break, all I wanted was to come back to my wonderful dorm room, with my bed, my decorated walls, I wanted college food, I wanted the tranquil feeling of the campus, I wanted to be back in class, I wanted... to be around the people I've come to befriend here on campus... I missed home.
 
So when my 8:30 class rolled around on Monday of this week, I was excited, but I soon realized... I was going to have a jam packed week. I have to say I work well under pressure and I am a great last minute organizer for penciling in on my list of events during any given day, but I've come to realize cutting out some of the unimportant events during a busy week will not only save you energy and time, it'll spare you some extra sleeping hours too.
 
Though despite all the craziness of my week, I am just glad to be back in my classes and sleeping in my own dorm bed! This week thus far has been quite a wild one. All this week I have been visiting with my professors and my advisor just to catch up and make sure where I stand in their classes and as a student. Which seeing your professor regularly, I find is a great habit to pick up on. If nothing else at least see your advisor every other week. THEY REALLY DO LOVE SEEING YOU! Also it shows you care. And here at Guilford, someone always has your interest and your well being at heart.
 
Hopefully next week will be a tad bit slower, I still have a feeling it will be a busy week, just less chaotic. Oh and before I end this... great news on my part... I did get the Orientation Leadership job, so you'll see my face for Orientation Week for 2010!

Hooray for March!

Finally a little bit of peace! I'm fairly certain that: A) It is going to be a slow week or B) It is going to be an intense week, for students here at Guilford. Midterm week the storm before Spring Break. Lucky enough for me, I am fortunate for this week to be a bit slower than my last two weeks of running around writing papers and taking tests. But do not get me wrong I still have little odds and ends to do before I can fully say "Finally Spring Break!", after all I still have one more Midterm tomorrow.

 

For future students, my insight for you during any Midterm week or major paper/test week is... just relax. Study hard but don't study so hard that you stay up until four in the morning. It is not worth it to be sleep deprived when you have an 8:30 a.m. class or a test or paper due in the afternoon. Yes, making sure you are well prepared for tests and papers is a wonderful thing but not when it compromises your physical health. This is why time management is the key to everything, well perhaps not everything but it's up there on the top 5 most important skills to have here at Guilford, I believe. My favorite quote I've heard while here on campus from another student is "It doesn't matter if you wait until the last minute as long as your stuff gets done." As much as I can relate to this quote, I STRONGLY suggest you work ahead on all your assignments because eventually all your class assignments add up and you do not want to be feeling overwhelmed during Midterm week. 

 

Aside from the craziness of Midterms, applying for housing next year started today for current students. Lucky for me, I took care of my housing application this morning, but it saddened me that Resident Life changed up how they are doing housing applications so I have to wait two more weeks before I can select my roommate for next year. It's not a bad thing I have to wait, it is more of that fact I like to be assured that all my info for anything gets submitted at the same time. But hey, that's just me. Speaking of Resident Life, keep your fingers crossed, because I really hope I get the Orientation Leader position for next year's Orientation Week. I should hopefully know by Friday whether I've received the job position or not.
