Laptops Temporarily Unavailable

The laptop computers normally available for library use from the circulation desk are temporarily grounded for inventory and upgrades.  Laptops are unavailable Tuesday, September 1 - Monday, September 8.  We apologize for this necessary inconvenience as we made improvements in our laptop options and services.

CCH Tax Research: Service Update

CCH Tax Research is now accessible to Guilford College students and faculty both on and off campus.  Off campus researchers need to go through the library's Web page and enter their campus log-on information when prompted.  An error message might display saying that the webpage's certificate is expired.  If the happens, then click "continue to website." You will then have an opportunity to create your new user accounts or login for CCH.

Guilford's Library Celebrates Centennial Year

The Carnegie Room wing of Guilford’s Hege Library is celebrating a birthday this fall.  There will be events and announcement commemorating this milestone through out the 2009-2010 academic year.  The library is also celebrating the 20th anniversary of the renovation which made the library the much larger building you see today and the rededication of the building as Hege Library, honoring the support of Guilford graduates Curt and Patricia Hege.  New improvements continue to be made as we adapt our historic building to offer improved technology and services to meet the growing research needs of our college community.
 
Prior to 1909, Guilford’s library lived in rooms located in other campus buildings.  The library was housed on the second floor of King Hall in 1908 when a fire destroyed the building.  Only about 15% of the library’s collection could be saved.  The college began plans for two new buildings – a new King Hall and a new Library.  The erection of a new separate library building was made possible by the financial support of Andrew Carnegie.  The building was ready for use by the fall semester of 1909 and students have continuously used the space now known as the Carnegie Room for study and research.

Interlibrary Loan Services Newly Automated with ILLiad System

Hege Library has transitioned interlibrary loan services to a new automated, paperless system known as ILLiad.  This is a comprehensive interlibrary loan management system which allows students, faculty, and staff to borrow books, articles, and other materials from select libraries.  This replaces the Interlibrary Loan Request Forms used in the past to acquire articles and books not included in our NC-PALS catalog.  There is no change to the process for borrowing books through the NC-PALS request feature.

First time users will be required to register with the ILLiad system which includes selecting an ILLiad username and password.  Please use your Guilford network user ID and password for this purpose.  Registered users wil be able to place ILL requests 24/7, check the status of current requests, view the history of all requests, retrieve requested articles electronically, and receive e-mail notification when book requests are ready for pick-up at Hege Library.

Renovations Underway

Please excuse our mess as we undergo construction in the Information/Reference Services area of Hege Library this August.  The Information Village desktop computers are temporarily unavailable.  Guilford community members can use the Betty Place Digital Classroom computers on the lower level or check out laptops from the front desk for use anywhere in the building.  These renovations will provide staff with adequate office spaces convenient to student researchers.  The Information Village computers were upgraded over the summer.  They will be back soon and available for student use their new location to the right of the Information/Reference Desk.
