Guilford is in the Year of Sustainability and many of our efforts across campus have focused on just that. In the proposed renovations for Hobbs Hall, Green initiatives have been included. Currently, 60% of hot water is heated by solar panels that are located on the roof of Hobbs. And, energy efficient windows were installed in 2009.
Renovation plans include:
■ Low-flush/flow valves on bathroom fixtures
■ All lighting will be replaced with energy efficient fixtures
■ Compost system for the Greenleaf Coffee Co-op
■ Grey watering system/rain water reuse
■ Fresh air intakes
■ Energy efficient Heating and Air Conditioning system
■ Vegetable co-op in the Greenleaf Coffee Shop from produce grown on campus
We are excited to see Hobbs Hall become more environmental friendly, while at the same time, preserving its historic structure and beauty. Hobbs Hall, as an iconic and significant part of Guilford's campus, will help the College in its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and operating costs. Once it is renovated, Hobbs Hall will be well-prepared for another century of service to Guilford students as well as the environment around us.
