As many members of the Guilford community are aware, David Newton, a much-loved faculty member in the art department, passed away after battling cancer last April. In his memory, the art gallery will host an exhibit spanning four decades of his career on March 23rd through May 4th, 2012. Titled Onward: the Creative Legacy of David Newton, the goal of the event is to pay tribute to his talent and influence as an artist and teacher.
Co-curated by founding director and curator Terry Hammond ‘81 and Guilford College senior Heather Von Bodungen, the exhibition will include over one hundred pieces of art, demonstrating his range of talent in painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking.
The opening reception will take place on Friday, March 23rd from 6-8 p.m.
Other happenings coinciding with this exhibit include the publication of a catalogue of David’s work compiled by Von Bodungen. As a Quaker Leadership Scholar, Heather completed this undertaking as her senior project, but she exceeded expectations by writing and obtaining an outside grant. Proceeds from sales of this catalogue will benefit a scholarship fund for the Art Student’s League of New York that was founded in David’s memory.
Additionally, a bronze plaque has been ordered for the tree that was planted last Fall to commemorate David’s legacy. Campus spiritual leader Max Carter has composed a haiku that will be engraved onto the plaque. The Haiku will also be included in the catalogue, and will tentatively be read at the opening reception.

Glorious info here. This fascinating post made me smile. Possibly should you throw in a couple of footage it would make the whole thing more interesting. Anyway, in my language, there are not much good source like this.
